Happy Mothers Day!

Mothers Day is always a little awkward for me.  I still miss my mum, and thoughts of her are always prominent on Mothers Day.   Then at Church the youth always give out some kind of mothers day gift to all the women.....today it was a delicious-looking cup cake (that I had to give away - I hate being on a diet!!); and I just can't help feeling completely unworthy to receive a mothers day gift of any sort; I've seen all the challenges that real mothers face (including my own mum); and they deserve at least one day of celebration, but by comparison, I'm a fraud.

Since mum died - I always buy her flowers for mothers day; so I enjoyed some lovely roses in her honour - she would have loved them :)

  1. I read a quote by Pam Holland today that I thought was really good. She said Mother's Day is not about counting heads. There are plenty who have given birth but never mothered. And plenty who have never given birth but truly computer in every aspect of the word.

You are not a fraud at all. I know PLENTY of youth (and adults) who count herself blessed because of the influence you have been in their life. I am one!

3 Nephi 22:1 and 2 reminds me of why I became a teacher to start with and why I went back to teaching

  2. Oops......hit something too soon!

I bad when I feel bad about babies I have lost. I should be grateful for the children I have, right? I am, but at times I still feel sad. This scripture gives me comfort.

I think all women have an innate desire to "mother" and fortunately giving birth isn't a requirement to participate.

  3. Oh Jenny, I would NEVER consider you a fraud!! I think your mothering influence you have made is huge!! You are so kind, uplifting, loving, etc, etc to everyone. I am sorry that you have to bear the burden of never having biological children, that must be such a hard burden to bear. You are a huge example to me, though, and I thank you for all you do.

  4. Thanks Jeanette and Dawn - you are very thoughtful and kind. That's a lovely scripture Dawn, why wasn't it in my Book of Mormon until now?!

Happy Mothers day to both of you - you are both such a wonderful example of motherhood.

    Thank you.
