Breaking with tradition

It was a normal Sunday, BUT...we didn't have roast chicken for dinner....how weird is that?  The weather was nice, it was definitely worthy of a barbecue.  So we had steak and salad - lovely.

Helen visit taught me today, we went for a walk and talk.  I can't help thinking there will probably be only one more chance to do that before it's too cold - scary!!

Did I already mention that Jody sent me some flowers as a thank you for my help with camp?  They were beautiful...and worthy of todays photo:

Best sleep in ever

I know I went to bed late (like 2-ish), but even so, I don't think I've ever slept in this late...didn't get up till gone 10....by which time I was running out of time to get everything done.   We had a shower at Marcies home for Loredana today - too much good food, lots of great company.

I went to see Harry Potter (the last one, can't remember what it was called!) with Lisette.  It was a good movie - and we went over to Marcia's house for a few hours afterwards - lots of fun!

The beginning of forever

Loredana held her engagement party today...it was really more like a pre-wedding reception, they are getting married in Idaho next week, and with immigration stuff, it's probably difficult to come back to Canada - so it's just easier to have the reception before the wedding.

Loredana is a delightful girl - from a delightful family...here she is (I should have probably included her fiance!)

Oh the foibles of youth

One of the cool things that youth in the neighbourhood do is to add bubbles to one of the community fountains...it's probably a crime, but it's a pretty funny one.  I think this is after about 5 days, I should take a photo on day one next time.

I'm sure this isn't environmentally friendly, but knowing the neighbourhood hoodlums, it's probably biodegradable.

Well that was hard work

Finally the guy working on our basement is actually able to spend some time working on it...unfortunately there is a TON of stuff that needs to be moved into the garage. Here is the before photo...

OK...so this may not look like much, but some of those boxes are FULL of books..and see that big oak desk at the bottom - well, it's heavy.  Here is the after photo...

I put a note on facebook asking for help - I really didn't expect anyone to be able to, but Shelby showed up - that woman is amazing, she's busy and still found time to come over.  Then she called her mum and dad and they moved these very heavy filing cabinets away from the walls.

Awesome - some people were just born good.

The best way to diet

I was telling Jackie today that my fridge is practically empty when there's no-one at home.  I've been home alone since Saturday, and will continue to be home alone until Arlan gets back from his next pairing....so there is no food in the fridge.....except for some lettuce, beetroot and cucumber.  What more can a girl want....although looking at this photo I guess I could have ham and eggs as well if I were so inclined.

It's really cheap to live alone!!

I'm ready to retire

I always thought I would struggle with retiring, but today was a holiday (Heritage Day I think); and I didn't give work a second thought.  I had planned to check my email, but I didn't - I think this is a sign that I am ready to retire, although I would probably run out of chores pretty quickly!

Drove down to LICs for a frozen yoghurt (again!), and snapped this shot of downtown at sunset from the end of our street using my new zoom lens.  Can someone explain to me why I can see Royal Oak from the office but I can't see the office from Royal Oak?  Weird.
